Implementation of Lean Practices in Banks: A Qualitative Research

Abstract

For Pakistani banks to remain competitive in this 21st century, they have to adopt and excel in practices that have brought significant competitive advantages to firms worldwide. Among these practices, lean management has played a significant role. There is a need to develop a systematic approach to access up to what extent firms are adopting lean practices. The objective of this research is to measure the level of adoptions of lean practices in banking sector in Pakistan. Face to face structured interviews were conducted and our findings suggest that banks are not implementing lean practices in true spirit. To implement lean practices holistically, bank employees should understand the philosophy of lean.

Zeeshan Ahmad Khan, University of Central Punjab

Zeeshan Ahmad Khan is a PhD Accounting and Finance Scholar. He has 5 research article published in internationally recognized journals and also co-author of 2 books. His area of interest is Management and Finance.

Muhammad Ahmad, University of Central Punjab

Dr. Ahmed is teaching at professional level for more than two decades. He did his doctorate degree (PhD) in Financial Management and his area of research was Mergers and Acquisitions. He is also a fellow member of Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (FCMA).Earlier he completed his M.Phil. Commerce from UCP and his research area was the same. He is a Certified General Accountant (CGA) from Canada and also holds corporate work experience of many years under his belt. He has published research and has supervised various research students at post graduate level. He also teaches at post graduate level and is a very popular teacher of the University.

Sehrish Butt, University of Central Punjab

Sehrish Butt is a PhD Accounting and Finance Scholar. She has 4 research article published in internationally recognized journals and also co-author of 2 books. Her area of interest is Accounting, Finance and Management.
